Is there anything more fun and summery than a beautiful spinning pinwheel? We sure don’t think so! We love having summer barbecues and decorating for fun summer parties, and we cannot think of a more fun way to decorate than by making felt pinwheel party decor. It is such an easy and festive way to dress up any summer event and add some handmade, lighthearted fun!
It is so easy to whip up these fun felt pinwheels, and they are such a versatile decoration that will liven up any event- whether your are looking to make pinwheel cupcake toppers, a pinwheel banner for decoration, or even a pinwheel party favor for your guests to take home! There are so many options to make these adorable felt pinwheels the star of your summer party decor!
Supplies Needed top Make Felt Pinwheel Decorations:
- felt circles in various sizes and colors that coordinate with your color theme, or a grab bag of colors for a rainbow theme
- acrylic button embellishments or rhinestone button embellishments
- paper straws or long toothpicks to make cupcake holders or a pinwheel bouquet
- boutineer backs or hair clips if you would like to make felt pinwheel party favors
- ribbon to make pinwheel bunting
- hot glue
Cut your felt circles into quarters, leaving them connected in the center. Fold one corner of each quarter towards the center, securing with hot glue. If you would like your pinwheels to have a peekaboo color on the inside, cut and fold two felt circles at once. Take care to glue each layer of felt individually when securing the corners.
Repeat the above step with multiple colors and sizes of felt to make a wide variety of fun and colorful pinwheels to choose from. Next, embellish the centers! We love the look of a cute summery button in the center, but the colorful rhinestone embellishments were also a fun eye catcher. It is really up to you and depends on the theme of your party!
The next step really depends on how you plan on displaying your felt pinwheels. If you are making cupcake toppers or will be using them as part of a pinwheel centerpiece, secure them directly to the paper straw with hot glue.
However, if you intend your felt pinwheels to be taken home as party favors, you will first want to secure them to a hair clip or boutonniere back. We used a brooch/ hair clip hybrid to make it versatile. If you are making personalized pinwheels for your guests you may want to choose one or the other, if you know your guests preference for how to wear their felt pinwheel accessory. Once you have added the backing, use that to pin or clip your pinwheel to a straw or ribbon, depending on how you intend to display your pinwheel party favors.
It is just that easy! Display your beautiful pinwheels cupcake toppers, super cute pinwheel centerpieces or pinwheel banners and let the party begin!
We kept our pinwheels in a red white and blue theme for independence day, but switching up the colors could make this the perfect garden party decor or a fun decoration and favor for a fun summer birthday party! This felt pinwheel party decor could really take you wherever the wind blows you. Have fun, and happy summer!
