No Slip Headband Instruction for FOE and Glitter Headbands
There are a lot of different ways to make your headbands non-slip. We LOVE using our Silly Grip Products for thicker headbands and clips (of course!) but find that when trying to use any silicone type product, it really causes the thinner elastic to pucker and it doesn’t look very nice. So, we came up with a simple, easy way make no slip headbands.
Elastic for headband - in this tutorial we used just regular fold over elastic.
3/8th inch velvet elastic in a coordinating color.
Hot Glue/Glue Gun
Start by cutting your fold over elastic to desired length. Our measurements for headband sizing can be found in our Measurements for Headbands and Hair Ties blog. Cut an extra 2 inch piece of elastic for finishing your headband. Cut your elastic the same size as your fold over elastic, MINUS 1 inch.
Fold each piece of elastic in half, making a little crease, and mark the crease with a small pen/pencil mark.
Line up the two pieces of elastic by matching up the lines you created. Hold the velvet on top of the elastic (make sure you are placing the velvet on the UNDERSIDE of the fold over elastic!), and slowing start gluing the velvet to the fold over, smoothing the velvet with your finger as you glue.
Continue the gluing process until all the velvet is glued to the fold over elastic.
Overlap the ends of your headband 0.5 inch and glue ends together.
Take the 2 inch piece of fold over you cut and center it over the seam.Glue the first end of the loop to the underside of the elastic.
Glue the other “flap” of elastic over the top of the piece you just glued down on the underside of the elastic.
Your headband will now have that extra hold from the velvet on the under side of the elastic. This works great for ensuring that headbands do not slip back on your head as easily! Hopefully this will help you make non slip headbands of your own!
